April 11, 2020

Dear Fillmore Unified School District Community,
The purpose of this message is to provide families with an update regarding district actions to support distance learning. I am pleased to share that our staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that our students will have access to our digital tools for distance learning. Our teachers are finalizing their digital classrooms and will be working with students on the Microsoft Teams platform for online discussions, email, and telephone calls. The safety and security of our students is our highest priority and can confirm that only registered Fillmore USD users (staff and students) will have access to Microsoft Teams. Thank you for your continued support and please refer to our Distance Learning support information located on our district webpage at
Distance Learning Update
• We continue Distance Learning Monday, April 13
• Specific information about grade levels will be provided later in this message
• During school closures our teachers continued to work and receive training
• Principals have been meeting frequently with teachers and district leadership to ensure optimal teaching and learning during these unusual circumstances
• During the week of April 13, Fillmore Unified students enrolled in grades 2-12 will be receiving their Microsoft Teams login information and access instructions via US Mail.
Grade Levels: How your child experiences Distance Learning will be based on grade level and/or school
• If your child is in Preschool, workbooks will be distributed the week of April 13
• If your child is in Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten or first grade, teacher created paper-based activities will be available for pick up at designated times
• If your child is in second through twelfth grade, your child will work with a device to connect with the teacher and complete assignments
• If your child attends Piru Elementary School, the device used prior to closure will be distributed no matter the grade
• If your child receives their instructional program with special services, their teacher or case manager will provide activities and lessons accordingly
Device Need:
• We recognize that not all families have devices or connectivity
• We are reaching out to families who expressed a need for technology during our wellness checks survey weeks ago
• We are prioritizing those families who do not have a device or connectivity at all
• Device Request Portal
• If your family needs a device and/or connectivity, complete the request for device or hotspot available online according to the school your child attends, by accessing the specific school site online
• District staff will review and verify the submitted information. Once approved, the school will schedule the pickup of the device and work with the family for distribution
• Hotspots are in high demand and difficult to come by. However, the district will provide these as the hardware becomes available
Questions/More Information: Additional Distance Learning resources are listed on our district website
